The history of the project 356/930
Viktor Grahser, a trained aircraft builder from Austria, emigrated to Australia as a young man in the 1960s. Along with him: his love for sports cars from Zuffenhausen. Soon after, it bought its first Porsche and had a dream: Project 356/930. He put his thoughts down on paper, bought another Porsche and parts, and got to work. Years passed, Grahser founded Australia Porsche 356 Register Inc. with friends. And the project developed arduously. In the 1990s Viktor Grahser returned to Austria after 31 years. Also present: a sea container with the project, two more cars. After returning to his home in Lower Austria, he sits in the container every day to be close to the cars. The relationship with his 356/930 was to become even more intimate. He breaks a huge hole in the wall of his house, pushes the Porsche into the sparsely furnished living room and bricks up the wall again. From now on, the introverted man lives with his car and makes the relationship between man and machine his most important purpose in life. Viktor Grahser was unable to complete his life project. He died in May 2008, leaving behind a house, property, his three beloved Porsches and an extraordinary life story.
Happy end of the project:
The cars came to Rafael Diez, owner of Diez-Classic, via detours. He fulfilled Viktor's dream and completed the project. In 2018, Rafael Diez told his friend and Porsche brand ambassador Walter Röhrl about the roadster and asked him to test drive the 356/930. "I'm a friend of old cars, they still make you feel like you have to be able to do something," says Walter Röhrl. I approached the converted 356 Roadster with turbo technology very carefully, apparently too much had been changed. I was all the more amazed at how perfectly balanced it felt on the first try. The deep lip at the front, the heavy engine at the back, 260 hp, it drives quietly, precisely and is a lot of fun. So much fun that Walter immediately took over the car, which Rafael Diez then named "Porsche 356 3000 RR". 3000 because of the displacement, and "RR" stands for Röhrl Roadster. Outside slate gray, the interior in red. Walter's four winner's plaques of the Monte-Carlo Rally are enthroned on the bonnet, the famous signature of the world champion is on the dashboard, a 911 steering wheel with a 356 rim is used and the instruments are reminiscent of a 911. Rafael Diez fulfilled Viktor Grahser's dream and I'm sure he's happy about the prominent owner: Walter Röhrl.
